Nickel – Custom Machined Parts
Pure nickel shows excellent corrosion resistance to caustic soda and chlorine gas. Pure nickel also has a melting point of 1433°C, making it highly heat resistant.
Invar is an alloy consisting of 36% nickel and 64% iron. It has a nearly zero coefficient of thermal expansion at room temperature. Because of this characteristic, Invar is named after "Invariable steel". There is also Super Invar, which has a lower coefficient of thermal expansion than Invar.
Kovar is an alloy consisting of 29% nickel, 17% cobalt, and 54% iron. It has a low coefficient of thermal expansion among metals near room temperature. The coefficient of thermal expansion is close to hard glass, so it is mainly used for hard glass sealing. In addition to hard glass, it is also used as a bonding material for ceramic sealing, electronic tubes, and electronic components
